Prismaflex one of Europe’s leading large format LED screen suppliers had been selected by one of the industry’s largest media companies to supply and install a Digital 48 sheet (6m x 3m) advertising display screen in Portsmouth, this installation would be a show case of Prismaflex’s product and expertise.
The site is on a busy roundabout in the heart of Portsmouth in Hampshire and was occupied by a tired looking and dilapidated stretch canvas hoarding. The site was completely overgrown, making initial surveys difficult. Brambles cut back and following a closer inspection, it was deemed that the current footings and steel work were not adequate for the new structure to sit safely at this location. A new electrical metered and data supply would also be required.
A comprehensive site survey was carried out by CVB to establish the site specifics.
With the site specifics fully understood a proposal encompassing an outline design, budget and timelines was submitted for approval. Once authorisation had been gained, the design was fully detailed and structural assurance gained.
Since the site survey revealed the existing hoarding had foundations which were not adequate and had been hastily modified with back braces in an effort to try and increase stability they were not able to be employed. Therefore a new foundation design was derived which avoided the necessity of removing the existing foundations.
Uprights were manufactured and on site the old hoarding was removed, followed by footings being dug and installed in readiness for the arrival of the screen. Throughout this close liaison with Prismaflex was necessary to ensure their standard product was able to be installed without modification.
With a new electrical supply set up, the screen along with its supporting structure were then installed and finally the site finished with some minor groundworks to finish the site to a suitable standard.
The project was managed by CVB, in accordance with CDM regulations, BS 7671 electrical wiring regulations and BSEN1090 European Structural standards. Naturally all suitable documentation to provide proof of compliance to these was produced as part of the project.
The design and manufacture of the structural elements were done in accordance with BSEN1090.
The solution provides an ideal location for digital advertising and will require little or no maintenance and that which is required, will be possible with excellent access.
CVB project managed the entire solution ensuring the smooth arrival of the Digital 48 to site, the install, the connection and the site dressing, all on time and on budget.
Looking forward to seeing the lights on next week. Thank you very much, Doreen, to you and CVB supporting Prismaflex UK with this project.
