CVB Display Solutions designed, manufactured and installed the successful Spacescapes exhibition at Burlington House in London (curated by the Royal Geological Society of London and the UK Space Agency).
This was an exhibition running over a number of weeks in 2021.
The remit for this new project was to repurpose the components of this exhibition for a permanent exhibition at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.
A comprehensive site survey was carried out by CVB to establish the site specifics.
With the site specifics fully understood a design was proposed which would allow the Totems to be permanently installed on an unused area of land on the campus.
With structural assurance for the design and aesthetic requirements having been met modifications to the existing totems and manufacture could be started.
The existing totems were designed for a non-permanent installation with a ballast weight to stop them overturning since fixing into the ground was not permitted in the original design brief.
The graphics were also permanently attached to composite panels and did not lend themselves to being able to be readily changed. Both of these aspects needed changing as the permanent installation is an open exposed area; has to withstand wind loading at all times during their design life and changes to the graphics could be needed as and when required.
The project was managed by CVB, in accordance with CDM regulations, and designs were assured to BSEN1090 European Structural standards. Naturally all suitable documentation to provide proof of compliance to these was produced as part of the project.
The project entailed Design, manufacture and installation – all within CVB’s remit.
Timelines were of great importance since there was an advertised opening ceremony planned to publicsie the opening of the exhibition.
CVB worked with the various stakeholders to ensure the smooth arrival of the exhibition, on time and on budget. The results speak for themselves.
